Today the Boiling Point PromTechDesign hosted a meeting with Luba Popova, a Professor of Fashion, theatre designer and practicing scenographer for Italian opera theatres. She told a remarkable story about the peculiarities of modern scenography in Italian and world theatres, provided a conceptual analysis of the costumes and decorations being created, looked into the history of opera directing, supported by the sketches, illustrations and photos. The audience was introduced to unusual trends in free reading of classical operas and directorial fantasies with few stage elements, supplemented by light effects and graphic projections, such as in La Scala’s production of The Queen of Spades. Luba told the audience about her rapturous impressions of the season-opening premiere of Modest Musorgsky’s opera Boris Godunov with the brilliant Ildar Abdrazakov in the title role, which took place yesterday in Milan.
