A pre-New Year creative mood prevailed yesterday at the Boiling Point PromTechDesign. Project teams met their mentors and presented sketches and designs for their stage productions. From the director to the set designer and on to the costume designer, the microphone was passed around during the presentation of each opera and each selected scene. All the team members understood the content and texts of the arias and tried to reflect the drama of the events onstage. Although in the opinion of the mentors, some managed to link their concepts with the music and the composer’s intention, while others need to refine their designs. The discussion between the mentors and the participants was conducted in a very professional manner and covered some important aspects of opera production. The mentors were optimistic about their ability to bring a classical work into the present day, while also stressing the importance of retaining the logical and conceptual ideas of the opera and the need for a coherent artistic image.
